Winterstart Slalom Races a Big Hit

Posted 1.2.2007

Meadow Race Team hosted 229 junior athletes from the PNSA and the Intermountain Divisions of USSA at the annual running of the Winterstart Slalom Races held on Stadium December 30-31, 2006.  Susan Managhan once again coordinated our volunteers and we appreciate all of our MRT parents and supporters who turned out to help.  This was a great opening event and MRT President Karl Wardrop reported “We are very pleased with how the race came off and how our race crews and volunteers worked together to produce another high quality ski competition for which the Meadows Race Team is known for”.

MRT athletes also enjoyed the weekend of slalom.  We had a some solid results from our juniors with a couple posting some personal bests.  On Saturday, Alicia McCord led the MRT Women with a 5th place overall and #1 for the J2’s.  Lindsay Schnapp skied to a 8th overall and #5 for the J1’s.  Kirsten Rowley, first year J3 scored a 13th overall and #1 for the J3 Women.  For the Men, Skyler Weaver smoked the field for the overall win by 18/100ths of second over Tim Hill of MBSEF.  Colbu Hopkins finished 2nd for the J1 Men and 4th overall.

On Sunday Kelley Fitzpatrick ripped to a 2nd place finish overall and #1 for the J2 Girls.  Lindsay Schnapp finished 5th and ended up #3 for the J1 Women.  First year J3 Kirsten Rowley ended up with a 17th overall and #2 for the J3 Women.  The Men  were led by Colby Hopkins who laid down an amazing first run and held on for 2nd place overall and #1 for the J1 men followed closely (6/100ths) by Skyler Weaver who managed a 3rd place overall and #2 for the J1 Men.  Erik Vermaas finished 7th overall and #3 for the J1 Men.  Will Geller just missed the podium with a 8th place overall and #4 for the J2 Men.  More results are available on Live-timing.com.
