Ben has a deep passion for skiing complex, off piste terrain.  He grew up skiing with the Mt. Ashland Racing Association (MARA) and South Medford Ski Team in Southern Oregon.  He then traded his racing skis for shoulder pads and played football in college.  He couldn't stay away from the ski community and began coaching during college with high school teams at Tigard and then Jesuit.  He then went on to coach adults and freeride with the MAC Ski Team for 13 years.  Finally, Ben was asked to join MRT to develop the Big Mountain Team in the 2019/20 season.  He led the program through 6 yrs of growth and learning before focusing on the Backcountry team the 2025/26 season. Both his daughters grew up in the program and continue to coach with MRT.  Ben has a level 100 coaching cert, Level 2 Avy cert and WFA cert.
