Coach Huey grew up in a ski racing family at Sugarloaf Mountain in northern Michigan and began racing in CUSSA (Central USSA) at a young age. He continued racing through high school at Boyne Mountain and Nubs Nob. He went on to race for four years with the University of Michigan ski club, where he served as team captain.

After graduating, he became a part-time race coach at Mt. Peter in southern New York, a small Hudson Valley mountain with big racing ambitions. He coached all three of his daughters (one of whom lives in Hood River) to successful high school racing careers, including participation in several high school championship meets at Gore Mountain and Whiteface.

His full-time career has been in the music industry, first as an artist manager, then at the Beggars Group of record labels in New York City, and later as the founder of the marketing and music strategy agency Toolshed Inc. After 24 years in New York, Huey moved with his family and business to White Salmon, Washington, in 2021 after falling in love with the Pacific Northwest. He is now restarting his part-time race coaching career.

Huey has worked with racers from U9 through U16. He holds a Level 100 certification and plans to test for Level 200 this winter. He is also an avid waterskier, windsurfer, hiker, and road and mountain cyclist.
